Patrick Ekeng, Cameroon midfielder who plays for Dinamo Bucharest, on Friday, collapsed on the pitch and subsequently died.
The 26-year-old midfielder is believed to have died of a suspected heart attack.
Ekeng fell to the floor in the 70th minute of a Romanian league match between Dinamo and Viitorul and was pronounced dead in the hospital two hours later.
Cristian Pandrea, a spokesman for the Floreasca Emeregency Hospital, revealed that doctors tried for an hour to resuscitate the Cameroon midfielder.
The Cameroonian FA has also confirmed the death of Ekeng, who had previously played for Le Mans and Lausanne.
