Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s men are ”masters” over women misogyny, Senator Remi Tinubu vs Elisah Abbo, Super Eagles beat South Africa in #AFCON2019 quarter-final – Here’s everything that happened this week

This week was a rollercoaster of buzzy stories, from politics to culture and while we routinely reported each of these stories from our YNaija desk, here’s a roundup of everything that went down in the past six days and are still trending today:

Senator Remi Tinubu vs Elisah Abbo

During the Senate investigative session presided by a six-man panel to probe the ”alleged” case of Senator Elisha Abbo assaulting a woman in an adult store, for which Abbo obligatorily appeared on Tuesday, Senator Oluremi Tinubu didn’t mince words in expressing how Abbo’s actions has smeared the institution of the Senate and that he wasn’t in a position to dictate the modalities and approach that panel should follow.

It also gave Nigerian men the opportunity to be open with their sexism, men like Gimba Kakanda. You can’t make this up:

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s men are ”masters” over women misogyny

A viral video showing Pastor Chris Oyakhilome saying in a church sermon that men are ”masters” over women in marriage sent the internet into a frenzy. Feminism and equal rights for women is an oft-contentious topic on social media any day, so you can imagine the rippling chaos online.

We are still basking in the euphoria of the Super Eagles thrashing South Africa’s Bafana Bafana 2-1 in the 2019 African Cup of Nations, a quarter-final clash that saw the South Africa get eliminated from the tournament. Rapper AKA, who incidentally is from South Africa, really didn’t hide his disappointment and sorrow about the match. And Nigerians came out in droves to troll him.

Hundreds of members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, also known as Shiites, on Tuesday, stormed the National Assembly and shot a police officer and a civil defence officer. Due to the invasion, the gates of the National Assembly had to be shut.
