Dr Francis Faduyile, President of the Nigerian Medical Association, yesterday evening on Channels TV revealed that over 150 Nigerian health workers are currently infected with coronavirus. Th NMA President feared that some states might run into crisis if this trend of doctors getting infected continues.

”We have over 150 health workers who are infected. Recently, in one department in Kano, about 20 doctors were infected and some commensurate number of nurses. After testing in the teaching hospital, they have up to 30 doctors that are infected. For example in Zamfara, the state government has about 29 doctors. By the time you have 5 or ten of them coming down with COVID19, you know they will have crisis. What we are saying is get PPE for them, train them properly so that we can give the best treatment to our patients,” the NMA president said. 

Healthcare workers are essentially first responders, our most potent defence against coronavirus and if the situation isn’t checked by them wearing protective clothing and observing safety guidelines and rules, we might seen an explosion in the numbers of infected case.

Mothers of Okwaraji and Yekini placed on N30,000 monthly stipend by NFF

The Nigeria Football Federation has placed the mothers of late ex-internationals, Sam Okwaraji and Rashidi Yekini on N30K monthly stipend. The announcement was made on Thursday after the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development had on Wednesday placed both matriarchs on N10K monthly stipend.

Kano discharges 16 more COVID-19 patients 

The Kano State Government has discharged 16 more COVID-19 patients from its Isolation centers after they tested negative for the virus twice. A statement released by the state Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, said the number of discharged patients in the state now stands at to 22.

NCDC says using cloth masks can’t fully protect against coronavirus

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has issued an advisory on use of cloth face masks amid the coronavirus pandemic. The health agency stated that though cloth face mask can be used as a barrier to respiratory droplets, it however ”cannot completely protect from COVID-19”.
