Aregbesola ‘to expel’ Christian students for wearing church garments to school

Osun state governor, Rauf Aregbesola on Tuesday threatened to expel students who wore unauthorised clothes to public schools in the State, Vanguard reports.

Some students of Iwo Baptist High School had worn church garments and choir robes to school (also on Tuesday) in protest to the court judgement allowing Muslim female students to wear veils (hijab) to schools.

The action of the students was as a result of the directive of the state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria.

Reacting to the incident while commissioning St Micheal’s Government Middle School, the governor said it was wrong and criminal for a section or group of people to have instructed some students to wear choir robes to schools against court’s judgment.

The governor advised anyone dissatisfied with the judgment to make their objections through legitimate means rather than trying to cause a religious crisis in the state.

“Government is not interested in any religion as being speculated. My goal is to improve education standard in the state.”
