Macwrites Spelling Bee Challenge announces change in 2016 championship schedule

The organising and administrating council of The Macwrites Spelling Bee Challenge have announced a readjustment to the 2016 championship schedule.

The maiden state-wide edition of The Spelling Bee Challenge for students aged 8-15, in schools across the 12 states of administration of the championship, commenced with enrolment and registration of schools in May and runs until November 26, when The Finals will be concluded; enrolment and registration for schools, end on September 10.

The readjusted schedule begins with the In-School inter-student contest which had been earlier set for three to four weeks after enrolment and confirmation of registration, being been moved to September 26-30, 2016.

State Championships are now slated to hold simultaneously across all states of administration within a 2-day period, on October 21 and 22; this being moved forward by two weeks from the earlier planned October 8.

The Finals will still on the earlier scheduled days, November 25 and 26.

According to the Media and Communications officer, Afolabi Gbonjubola, the new are billed to accommodate the different calendars operated by participating schools and those with the interest to enrol for participation, but have found the earlier schedules cumbersome.

This is aimed at creating a flexible and structured programme with a convenient timeline of events for all parties concerned: students, schools, sponsors, partners and the administrators.

“This is to increase participation of schools in the championship, said Mr. Gbonjubola said.

“The earlier schedules were formed based on the activities of schools during the last session.

“We considered the new dates following the feedback from schools, citing other activities such as exam and valedictory service.

“Although the initial timeline for the championship did not affect any of those activities, members of the administrating and organizing council met with sponsors and partners, and decided that it was best to have a much clearer schedule which would easily accommodate every participating and interested school across the twelve states,” he concluded.

Feedbacks received in the reach out to schools across all states confirmed that they operate on different schedules and calendar of activities; including those within the same state, some running timelines two to three weeks earlier than others.

Whilst Exams and Valedictory services are on, interested schools from the 12 states of administration – Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Delta, Edo and Rivers, can still enrol and register their students until September 10, when enrolment and registration closes.

Enrolment requirements and conditions for participation are available on the website

The Macwrites Spelling Bee Challenge wishes schools and their students, a very successful valedictory service.
