I often wondered why about 90% of companies would be so cruel to ask for 2-5 years working experience for job placements. Where do they expect fresh graduates to get this pre-requisite advantage?
Is this a ploy by said companies to ward of millions of applicants who vie for limited openings? Not entirely!
Now why do companies really ask for what these graduates cannot give?
For brevity sakes… I’ll simply say because fresh graduates lack content. How do I mean? Regardless of what grade you graduate with, companies who don’t ask for working experience would still have to train new recruits.
Not every company is well equipped to handle trainings (especially growing companies).

So… being as it is, what is the way out? Every man is said to be the author of his own destiny. If you find yourself in a pit, your best bet is to climb out and not sulk about it.
Some graduates are beginning to learn the value of internship. This is the surest way to gather required experience, skill and expertise regarding your given field.
Some others are dropping their pride to take up jobs that pay as low as N25,000 for a graduate. Why do this? This gives you a chance to improve, learn and show what stuff you are made of and most importantly build relevant relationships and contacts.
If you understand the times in present Nigeria. You will wise up and take the right action to beat your competition i.e millions of other applicants.
Now that you have the advantage, use it!
It’s okay to dream big so long as you wake up and turn those dreams to reality with hard work and excellence.

Truth is talking from experience, we have more bosses and few leaders in our society today. I remember interning at a place where I was asked to do odd,mundane jobs that had no bearing whatsoever on my area of expertise or the firm’s core competence.
Needless to say, my time there although not completely useless, added no skills or expertise I could add to my Resume. When we have better teachers and managers,we’d have more willing students.
