Opinion: Why Donald Trump will defeat Hillary Clinton in historic U.S. election

by Chineme Uzo

I will tell you why I believe Hillary Clinton will not be elected President of the United States of America.

But, before I give reasons, let me give you a brief on the two parties and the candidates, then leave you to decide.

America is a two party democracy. You have the Grand Old Party (GOP) the Republican Party, which is associated with conservative beliefs on a few issues as marriage, abortion, religion, school prayer and gun control.  The Democratic Party is known for their liberal divergent beliefs on the above issues.

So, we can deduce that Donald Trump’s party does not openly support liberal beliefs like gay right, same sex marriage or even gun control, while Hillary Clinton’s Democratic Party believes and promotes such beliefs like abortion, gay rights, same sex marriage and expects its elected politicians (Hillary Clinton) to propagate those beliefs not just in America, but as an important aspect of America’s foreign policy.

In the next couple of paragraphs, I will try to give a historical background about the two candidates representing the Democrats and the republicans respectively, beginning with Donald Trump, who is perhaps better known for his financial success story than political prowess.

‘The Donald’ as he is popularly known has neither held an elected office nor had any cabinet portfolio. This will be Trump’s first attempt at becoming president of America, should he win, with a steadfast promise to ”Make America great again”

Throughout his campaign to be nominated, ‘The Donald’ has been controversially outspoken offensive remarks towards some female politicians and journalists.

He has continuously made uncomplimentary remarks about Muslims, Latin American immigrants, and other minorities. In fact, he says he will not make politically correct statements.

A thorough analysis of his campaign history shows that his popularity is not driven by economic ideas but by the right wing ideologies that appeals to many Republican delegates and Americans in general.  These right wing ideologies have become more appealing in recent times because of the propaganda of terrorism being linked to people of Middle-Eastern origin.

Hilary Clinton on the other hand is a former United States First Lady, her husband served two terms from 1992-2000. She is a Lawyer by profession and was elected Senator in the United States Congress from New York from 2001-2009. She is the only ex-First lady to seek two different elective offices in American history (Senate seat and President).   This is her second attempt at running for President.

She lost her first attempt after a very bitter tussle with eventual winner Barack Obama. That campaign was also hit with controversy about race. She was eventually compensated with the Secretary of State role in the Barak Obama government.

She believes she is better prepared than Donald Trump to be President because of her experiences in the senate and as her country’s 4th most powerful official, as secretary of State. Her campaign has however been affected mostly by scrutiny surrounding her tenure as Secretary of State

Now the three reasons I believe Hilary Clinton will not be elected as the first female President of the United States of America.

  1. Americans voters always tend to elect candidates of strong character and personality who have preferably served in the Armed Forces in any capacity. They believe it that people with such military experiences are better suited for the role when it comes to decision making about going to war, or making tough diplomatic choices when it comes to America’s interests. For example, the past 9 Presidents’ from John F Kennedy have served in the Military, except for Bill Clinton and Barak Obama. Mrs. Clinton never served in the Military while Donald Trump was conscripted but was deferred from serving in Vietnam and other combative assignments on several occasions. And I believe it will play a part in deciding who is elected when the elections are held this November.
  1. The Democrats have been elected for two consecutive terms to the executive arm of government since 2008. If Hilary Clinton wins, she will increase the number of years the Democrats have held executive power to 3 consecutive terms of 12years. The last time it happened was Ronal Regan (1980-1988) and George Bush(1988-1992). It remains to be seen how that will happen come November, 2016
  2. Hilary Clinton’s tenure of Secretary State is tainted with so many controversies and unanswered questions and if she gets elected, it will scar her legacy and integrity. One of the most damning of the controversies was the inability of the State Department to do enough to protect the United States Ambassador to Libya Christopher J Stevens in 2012, who was killed by Libyan insurgents during an uprising in Benghazi to mark the anniversary of September 11th 2001 bombing of the twin towers in New York. Her campaign has also been tainted by accusations of abuse of office when it was proven she used private email server to carry out her work in the State Department. After she was found guilty, the FBI decided only to reprimand her and the Justice Department decided against filling for criminal charges. No wonder, ‘The Donald’ calls her “crooked Hillary”.

As we get closer to the November date, one thing is certain; this will not be an easy election.  However, if you put these points into perspective, you will understand why she has lost when she eventually loses by November, 2016.
