Opinion: Did Ganduje betray Kwankwaso?

By Auwalu Lawan Aranposu

Immediately he was sworn in as Kano state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje pledged to continue with all outstanding projects left uncompleted by his predecessor and he did as promised.  He completed the Kabuga underpass and he ordered the contractor of the Sabon Gari flyover back to site.  He also retained Kwankwaso’s Accountant General, Secretary to the State Government, Press Secretary and his DG Media and Communications.

Dr Ganduje tried to be too loyal to Kwankwaso to the extent that  any time he visits Abuja, he goes directly to the Senator’s residence to greet him.  He didn’t stop at this,  he some time  takes Kano state government officials to accompany him to Abuja for Sallah homage to the senator.

When the issue of appointing Ministers came up,  His Excellency, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje allowed the Kwankwaso free hands to nominate his choice and of which he nominated himself. There is no political gothering or government functions that Governor Ganduje would not talk good of Kwankwasiyya. He is always very clear that he and Kwankwaso are one. But this kind of patriotic gesture hardly  happen with Kwankwaso. Ironically, Kwankwaso never associated himself with Ganduje and never promoted Ganduje administration. Instead, he wants his cult name to be mentioned every-time in Government House. The Ganduje administration was not up to three months when some of the aggrieved ex commissioners who worked with the former governor Kwankwaso formed a forum “Jiya tafi yau” and which everyone expected Senator Kwankwaso to call them to order but failed to do so.

The problem started  when the Governor Ganduje promised to complete all outstanding projects of his Grandfather and that of his father (Shekarau and Kwankwaso respectively). This is Ganduje first offence as far as Kwankwasiyya is concerned.

The Second offence Ganduje committed against the Senator is why must he initiate his own projects without completing his leftover?

The big sin and the third offense Dr Ganduje Committed in the eyes of Mr Kwankwaso is why he hosted and honoured Kano indigenous persons appointed by Mr President, particularly that of the Minister of Interior. Governor Ganduje was greatly what President Muhammadu Buhari did to Kano people. In appreciation to this gesture, Ganduje promised to reciprocate by backing Buhari for second term come 2019 by the Special Grace of God.

Since then whenever  Governor Ganduje  called Senator Kwankwaso, he refused picking his calls and neither did he return the calls. If the governor visits Abuja and makes attempt to see the senator, he refuses to see him

The worst thing is that when the mother of the governor Hajiya Fatima (Allah Yaji Kanta) passed away, the governor personally sent a text message to the Senator after making attempts to call and inform him about the incident but the senator failed to respond to the text message.

But what Kwankwaso felt  his old friend deserves in return to  his total loyalty was to turn the  death of his mother into political arena. In fairness, is this plausible? Certainly it is not. From the foregoing incidences, it is clear that it is Kwankwaso and not Ganduje that betrays himself.
