Opinion: How to excel like Solomon

by Divine Nwoye

Solomon, on becoming the King of Israel spotted a problem, his father, David couldn’t solve – as a king -. Because of the numerous
adversities that confronted him (David). He sought a solution by strategizing and meeting stakeholders that
will be instrumental to his plan to build a temple for God. Among those stakeholders is Hiram – David friend who loved him so much – who is the king of Tyre. And Solomon sent to him saying:”You know how David my father could not build a house to the Name of

“You know how David my father could not build a house to the Name of the Lord his God because wars were about him on every side until the Lord put his foes under his feet.”1 King 5:3 AMP

He gave him the reason, David couldn’t actualize his dream of building a house for God – ’cause of adversities. And he went on to purpose that he will build the house for God and pleaded with Hiram to help him with cedars trees and other assistance.

Hiram obliged with his request and they signed a bilateral agreement so that each of them will benefit from the on-going House of God
Project. As Solomon embarked on the project, “The Lord gave Solomon WISDOM, as he promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and they made a treaty.” 1 King 5:12 AMP

Listen…

Solomon recognised the place of God in his leadership journey so he first sought after God and instead of demanding power to reign and gain access to the commonwealth of Israel and have it all to himself.

He asked for WISDOM – the principal thing in LIFE.

God endowed him with wisdom, which is profitable to direct. And wisdom directed him to meet Hiram to help him fulfil a mandate.
He learned to be diplomatic via wisdom, that his negotiation with Hiram became successful and they immediately entered a pact.

You know what, wisdom “helps him to succeed.” Eccl. 10:10 AMP, so if you need wisdom rush to him and he will give it to you liberally.

It’s all about Him, no else in every area of your life. In leadership, academic, business and relationship, wisdom is profitable to direct.
To excel in understanding, meditate on His WORD daily and work out your salvation with fear and trembling.

Happy Sunday.
