Open Letter: PDP youth vow to take Nigeria to the promised land

by Stanley Azuakola

Youths in the Peoples Democratic Party under the aegis of the ‘PDP Youth Circuit’ have written a public letter to youths in other political parties as well as “Social Network Political Activists (SNEPA).” Their message was simple: “We have already decided where we want our country to go. We will take our country to the Promised Land through our clarity of vision, pragmatism, creativity and patriotism.”

They recalled the recently conducted twitter debate between youths of the ACN-CPC represented by Moji Rhodes (@speaklagos) and those of the PDP represented by Lai Labode (@PDPYouthCircuit), saying that the debate exemplified the PDP ideals of intellectual exchange without rancour or bitterness.

The PDP youths pointed out that they were not afraid to admit their shortcomings but emphasised that it does not stop them from “creating a better tomorrow…which we all will be proud to bequeath to our children born and unborn.”

They brushed off talks of doom in Nigeria, while reaffirming their belief in the power of the youths to bring about change.

The letter was signed by Lai Labode (Chairman of the PDP Youth Circuit), Uche Chuta, Ohimai Godwin Amaize (Special Adviser to Minister of Sports), Debie Mangut, Tomi Araromi, George Enema, Prince Adetunji Adeyeye, Nnaemeka Enejere, Huraira Mohammed, Gbenga Sobowale, Nanven Mohammed, Claire Arinze, Sola Oyekanmi, Usman Yaro, Gbenga A. Falaiye, Ojugo Onyeluka, and Taiwo O. Adepoju.

To youths from other parties, the PDP Youth Circuit gave this charge: “We must begin a new era of respectable disagreements based on what can put food on the table for our people, educate their children and create 21st century jobs.”

The PDP youths also expressed their desire to set a new stage where ideology rather than ethnic, personal and religious affiliations will define political dealings.

They promised among other things to be ever ready to fight, bleed and die that this country remains one united nation under God; to always put Nigeria first; to avoid questioning the patriotism of others even when they disagree; to be responsible; and to advocate a strong, responsible and pragmatic coalition of youths in Nigeria political parties.

They therefore called on all youths in all political parties to “look closely at the plans and actions of the PDP Youth Circuit under the umbrella of the new Leadership of the PDP and see for themselves that a new PDP truly beckons.”
