Senator Elisa Abbo the woman-beater

If you have been out of the loop, Premium Times released footage showing Elisah Abbo physically assaulting a woman in an adult store in Abuja. Abbo is the senator representing Adamawa North senatorial district, on the platform of the PDP and the viral video has generated a frenzied buzz on social media, overwhelmingly calling for the senator to be removed from his position with the appropriate punishment meted out to him. Olamide and Maria Okan pregnancy saga

Not long after Olamide welcomed a second child with his baby mama, Marian Okan came into the picture allegedly pregnant for the rapper. Okan is a former radio presenter on Beat FM, and some reactions on Twitter have revolved around the contrast between her and Olamide, in the context of the worlds they come from – him a street rap king and Okan a dainty, English-accented princess. Then the swirling report that Olamide gave her N2m to abort the pregnancy, which Okan took but didn’t go through with the abortion.

It has once again generated a conversation on abortion and women’s bodies, and how Nigerians are only pro-choice when a pregnancy is on its way to doom a man’s life. We will be keeping tabs on this story.



Buhari reappoints Abba Kyari as Chief of Staff

Buhari on Friday reappointed Boss Mustapha as the Secretary to the government of the federation. He also reappointed Abba Kyari as his Chief of Staff, who caused a controversy last month in the context of perceived nepotism.


Supreme Court declares APC’s Oyetola winner of Osun guber election

The Supreme Court on Friday declared Osun Governor, Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the September 22 governorship election held in the state.

In a lead judgement of five justices with two dissenting, the appeal by the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Senator Ademola Adeleke was dismissed  as the verdict also nullified the judgment of the elections petition tribunal which had declared him as the winner of the contest.

Busola Dakolo files petition against Biodun Fatoyinbo

Since celebrity photographer Busola Dakolo came forward with the revelation that she was allegedly raped by Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), her story has enabled a number of victims to speak about similar experiences. Now, in a new development, Dakolo’s legal representative has filed a petition against Fatoyinbo with the office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Lagos on 27th June, 2019, prior to the release of the viral video where she recounted her ordeal.

Detained Madonna University students and lecturer released from prison

Since February, six Madonna University and a lecturer were unlawfully detained for allegedly writing a Facebook post that portrayed the school in bad light. The hashtag #Madonna7 emerged on Twitter as a campaign to get them out of prison, which happen on Thursday when the court granted them freedom. If there’s anything to be learned this week, it’s that Nigerians are starting to realise that they can effect the changes they want to see when they stick together and protest.


Ailing Ben Nwabueze leads Atiku’s legal team as lead council

Eighty-eight-year-old erudite Professor of Law and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Ben Nwabueze, on Thursday, took over as head of the legal team representing the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja.

Buhari suspends Ruga settlement project

On Wednesday, new circulated that Buhari has suspended the controversial Ruga project, according to the governor of Kebbi after the meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) committee on the deadly farmers/herders crisis.

Northern group issues governors 30-day ultimatum on Ruga settlement

A coalition of northern groups has given state governors who are opposed to the Ruga settlement plan one month to reconsider their position – The coalition, through it spokesman, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, called on such governors to give peace a chance – It also said that the difference in views on the initiative among state governors is causing disaffection for herdsmen in the country.
