‘Okonjo-Iweala could have resigned, when governors refused to save funds’ – APC

The South East chapter of the All Progressives Congress has said the former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, must be prosecuted for her conspiracy in ‘squandering the nation’s oil resources by the Jonathan administration’.

The APC’s position was in reaction to Okonjo-Iweala’s statement where she noted that the last administration lacked the political will to save funds.

And although she has clarified the statement by noting that it was the governors and not former President Goodluck Jonathan, who lacked the will to save – the APC however, maintains that her confession is an admission of conspiracy in alleged mismanagement of monies accrued from crude oil sale.

Osita Okechukwu, speaking on behalf of the South East APC, said: “My understanding is that ex-president Jonathan handed over the economy to our sister to manage because of her acclaimed international pedigree.”

“Ngozi should have resigned, that’s the path of honour and rectitude. It is easy to sit in her comfort zone in the United States and plot an escape route from the economic adversity she unleashed on Nigerians.”
