Okonjo-Iweala, Diezani, others being investigated by EFCC [DETAILS]

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is investigating former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as well as the former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Allison-Madueke.

The former Ministers are being investigated in connection with corruption acts and diversion of public funds carried out during the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

Chairman of the anti-graft agency, Ibrahim Magu, revealed this on Monday, February 8, during the budget defence session with the House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes.

Magu also revealed that Kola Aluko, a close associate of Allison-Madueke is also being probed by the anti-graft agency.

Aluko is alleged to have helped stashed in foreign countries, public funds looted by some former government officials.

The EFCC bos made the revelation while fielding questions from a member of the committee, Hon. Razak Atunwa.

The lawmaker had inquired whether Okonjo-Iweala, Aluko and Allison-Madueke were included in the EFCC investigative list and Magu responded saying: “very soon, we will go into the petroleum industry.”

He further added: “Such investigation requires that we have to build capacity, we have to bring in experts to enable us tackle what we are doing properly and the investigation must be conducted properly. We have internal lawyers and external lawyers, we have to pay insurance.”
