Ojo-Maduekwe dies at 71

Ojo Maduekwe, a former Nigerian minister, has died at the age of 71.

During his life, Maduekwe held several government positions in three Peoples Democratic Party administrations.

Maduekwe served as Minister of Culture and tourism, and Minister of Transport in the Olusegun Obasanjo administration and also Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Yar’Adua administration.

Maduekwe, who hails from Abia state, was Nigeria’s high commissioner to Canada under President Goodluck Jonathan.

His last political position before his death was as the secretary of the board of trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The cause of his death is currently unknown.
