Oga Bolaji should be on your #QuarantineWatch playlist

Oga Bolaji

Our job this quarantine, among other things is figuring what are the best things to watch on the internet and how you can get a piece of them. Filmmakers have been extra resourceful this period, going as far as making their older work available on streaming platforms and mostly on Youtube where they reach the widest audience and make a bit of revenue on the side. Kayode Kasum, one of the most in-demand directors in the game right now (he directed Sugar Rush and Alakada Reloaded), is getting in on the action with his reissue of his 2018 love letter to Lagos life with ‘Oga Bolaji’.

Oga Bolaji is a story that is centered around the simple happy-go-lucky life of a 40-year-old retired musician (Gold Ikponmosa). His life takes a drastic turn when he crosses paths with a seven-year-old girl which could lead to the worst or best days of his life.

Oga Bolaji showcases the resilience and ingenuity of the Nigerian spirit; the way we live, our pain and our limitations, yet continue to strive, hope and dream.

Oga Bolaji is a strong deviation for the plethora of upper middle class, romance driven films that have come out from New Nollywood over the last few years. To hear pidgin, and stories that show the resilience and ingenuity of the working man, with a really fun soundtrack, Oga Bolaji is a fun quarantine watch that shows much of the curiosity that has made Kayode Kasum a box office wonder.
