Obey your Bishop or get suspended – Pope warns Nigerian Priests

Pope Francis has ordered defiant Nigerians priests to obey him and their Bishop if they don’t want to lose their job.

The Pope met a delegation from the Ahiara diocese on June 8 at the Vatican, where priest have been refusing to accept the 2012 appointment by Benedict XVI.

The Vatican newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, said on Sunday that Francis was acting “for the good of the people of God” by giving a harsh order for the priests to obey the Bishop or they be suspended from the ministry, Daily Journal reports.

The Pope told the delegation that he was sad about the priests’ refusal to accept Bishop Peter Okpaleke’s appointment.

In his address, he made it clear that any rebellion against papal authority would not be taken lightly, and those opposing Okpaleke’s authority “want to destroy the church, which is not permitted.”
