Obama sends solidarity message to Mexico over earthquake

Former US President Barack Obama tweeted bilingually with a message of support and solidarity for Mexico after a powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck the Central Mexico on Tuesday.

Obama wrote in the tweet, “Thinking about our neighbors in Mexico and all our Mexican-American friends tonight. Cuidense mucho y un fuerte abrazo para todos”.

The other lingua was in Spanish and meant, “Take care and a big hug for everyone.”

The earthquake struck on the same day the anniversary of the 1985 8.0 magnitude earthquake which rocked the capital city and killed over 1000 people was being remembered. Tuesday’s quake which claimed over 200 lives and caused severe leveling of many buildings is also the heaviest earthquake since 1985 and the 2nd in two weeks after an earthquake of 8.1 magnitude jolted South Mexico a fortnight ago.

President Trump also sent a message of concern to Mexico in an earlier tweet saying the US is with the North American state and will always be there for them.
