Gov. Fashola explains how the $90m World Bank Education Loan was spent – Vanguard News

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, Tuesday, formally gave a breakdown of how his administration spent the $90million about N13.5 billion, education grants by World Bank to state in 2009, saying the state government had nothing to hide.

Fashola stated this at the launch of a book, “Eko Project: A Legacy of Excellence.”

The book was a documentation of all the activities of project during the period and the different projects executed. Read more…

NSA orders probe into alleged mistreatment of Speaker Tambuwal by security agents – Premium Times

The National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, has raised a panel to investigate Monday’s alleged harassment of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, by security operatives, who allegedly insisted on searching his car for bombs.

The incident occurred at the 17th Hotel Kaduna, the venue of an international conference on security and development challenges of pastoralists in West and Central Africa.

The Speaker, who was one of the keynote speakers at the conference, arrived the Hotel at about 9:16 a.m.; but soldiers at the gate were alleged to have insisted his cars would only be allowed entry after it is certified free of bombs. Read more…

U.S. says Nigerian government should be held responsible for failure to rescue Chibok girls – Premium Times

The United States says the Nigerian government should be held responsible for the seeming lack of progress in rescuing the over 200 kidnapped teenage girls.

The over 270 girls were kidnapped from the dormitory of the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, on April 14, by the Boko Haram.

Over 50 of them escaped and reunited with their family while 219 are believed to still be with the insurgents. Read more…

70 Boko Haram suspects killed in Borno raid – Premium Times

After a gun battle with security operatives, about 70 members of Boko Haram were killed on Saturday in villages near Chibok Town where the insurgents had on April 14 abducted over 250 schoolgirls.

However, the Nigerian military and members of the Nigerian Vigilante Group, formerly called Civilian JTF, disagreed on who should take credit for the killing of the insurgents. Read more…

IG decorates Frank Mba, Okudo, seven others – PM News

The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, on Tuesday in Abuja decorated nine newly promoted senior officers.

The decorated officers included the Force spokesman, Frank Mba, and one AIG, Grace Okudo. Mba was decorated as Assistant Commissioner of Police.

The force spokesman and other eight officers were among 210 senior officers promoted by the Police Service Commission on June 10. Read more…
