#NonBinary: Segalink declares homophobic stance in one tweet | #Intersectional

by Adewale Alabi

Nigerian activist, Segun Awosanya seems to be clear on the fact that he is not a fan of the Feminist Coalition. In a series of tweets, Segun, popularly known as Segalink, spoke about the feminist coalition, saying they were using the protest as an opportunity to spread their own agenda.

His tweets were spurred by the Feminist Coalition’s support of #QueerNigerianLivesMatter. Sega’s response was clear and concise – the feminists were hijackers and leading the protesters astray for their own agenda. In response to the tweets by the feminists, Sega said:

“Kindly call this what it is. This is NOT #EndSARS Movement but an LGBTQ+ and Feminist Movement. Stop impersonating and exploiting the vulnerability of Nigerians, who genuinely wants to end impunity. This agenda is dead on arrival. There is no place for an insurrection in Nigeria!”

Furthermore, he made it clear that there was no more need for the protests because SARS had ended and that the government was already making efforts to reform the police.

“The demonic agenda will NOT stand. Eat their food and clear the roads. SARS ended. The government agreed to the demands and the Police Reform is in gear. The attempt to smuggle this culture in the heart of our healing will fail. Our laws are clear. You can’t bully anyone into submission.”

“We see humanity. Everyone that’s been violated will get justice regardless of their sexual preferences or gender. This is Nigeria. We are rich in culture and our Laws are incandescently clear. Stop importing trash into our already beleaguered society. We have enough on our hands.”

“Read my lips: I will NEVER bow to Baal. My allegiance is to my Country. Go back to Hell! Right pointing”

Many feel Segalink’s recent outbursts are as a result of not being recognised by the protesters as the leader and convener of the #EndSARS/#EndSWAT movement. Whatever the case may be the tweets by the Feminist coalition did give him ammunition to launch homophobic vitriol and undermining the feminist coalition. One might say he killed two beds with one stone.
