No but seriously, now that ‘Pablo Kosibar’ has apologised, maybe Nigerian brands can chill out on #KeepTheChangeBae?

It’s hard these days to tell whether Nigerian brands have any PR strategy they work with. And the way that they jumped on the hottest hashtag of the day #KeepTheChangeBae – from Wema Bank to Restaurants, we are not sure we are any closer to resolving that confusion.

Understandably, Wema Bank saw a good opening when #5KBae posted a picture of the transfer she made to Pablo using their platform. That move sort of made sense:

We should have known, though, that it was about to get really “lit” when a branding company quickly jumped on it and made a social media flyer for the bank.

All good. All very in tune with the theme of the day.

But how do we explain First Bank jumping on the trend? Returning Ore’s 5,oo0 through “her FBN account” and then quickly inducting her into their women only “FirstGEM” family. We are confounded. Was First Bank just waiting around for the next trend or what.

We should not have bothered because the onslaught of the #KeepTheChangeBae by brands had only just started.

In less that 24hours, we have had Payment portals, Banks, Investment companies, furniture makers, restaurants and all sorts.

It’s almost as if no one has stopped to give a thought to the fact that the next trend is only one tweet away. What will AfriInvest and First Bank and all the others do then?

Anyway, now that Pablo Ayodeji has apologised profusely, who will make him an ambassador or even just donate to his money-making ministry?
