The Federal Government on Wednesday, May 11 removed the subsidy on petrol and gave freedom to any Nigerian entity to import fuel for sale.
With subsidy removed, the recommended price of fuel is placed at N145 per litre but the Nigerian Labor Congress is not having any of it.
In a statement signed by Peter Ozo-Eson, General Secretary of the NLC, the congress rejected the removal of subsidy on petrol by the Federal Government and threatened to shut the economy of the country down in effect.
Noting that the removal of the subsidy is the height of insensitivity from the government to the plight of the millions of suffering Nigerians, the NLC said: “With the imposition on the citizenry of criminal and unjustifiable electricity tariff and resultant darkness and other economic challenges brought on by the devaluation of the Naira and spiraling inflation, the least one had expected at this point in time was another policy measure that would further make life more miserable for the ordinary Nigerian.”
