Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets have qualified for the final of the ongoing U-17 World Cup going on Chile.

The Emmanuel Amuneke-led team defeated Mexico to qualify for the final by 4 goals to 2.

The coach of the Mexican team, Mario Arteaga, had earlier expressed confidence that his team would win after expressing doubts over the true age of the Nigerian teenagers.

Mexico took an early lead after Kevin Magana scored at the 7th minute but Nwakali equalised at the 35th minute and Okonkwo gave Nigeria the lead shortly before halftime.

The Mexicans equalised before the hour mark with a goal from Cortes while Ebere scored for Nigeria at the 67th minute making the scoreline 3-2.

John Lazarus was taken down in the Mexicans 18-yard box thereby paving the way for Osimhen to score a penalty in the 83rd minute and consolidated Nigeria’s victory.

Nigeria will face Mali in the final on Sunday while Mexico will face Belgium for the third place match.

The last time the U-17 World Cup experienced an all-African final was about 22 years ago in Japan where Nigeria defeated Ghana to win the title for the second time.

That 1993 team comprised of several would-be legends; Celestine Babayaro, Kanu Nwankwo, Ibrahim Babangida, Wilson Oruma amongst others.
