‘Nigeria is moving towards totalitarianism’ – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, on Tuesday, joined several other Nigerians to criticise the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for freezing the bank account of Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state.

The Governors described the action by the EFCC as an abuse of the constitution of Nigeria.

Speaking through its chairman, Olusegun Mimiko, who is also the Ondo state governor, the PDP called on President Muhammadu Buhari to bring the EFCC under control, saying that EFCC was portraying Nigeria as a country in crisis.

Mimiko in a statement noted that by freezing Fayose’s account, the EFCC has breached Section 308 of the 1999 constitution.

He further said that if the EFCC has any case against the Ekiti state Governor, it should wait until the tenure of the governor elapse before pursuing any course of action.

While warning that Nigeria was moving towards totalitarianism, Mimiko said that the account of an individual should not be frozen without a court order.
