Niger State Assembly impeaches two speakers in one week. Third time’s the charm?

Niger State Assembly is fast gaining a reputation as one that changes its leaders as quickly as a man changes underwear. Barely a week after it impeached its former speaker, Mohammed Tsowa Gammunu, on the grounds of incompetence, the assembly impeached the new speaker, Honourable Isah Kawo. That was quick.

Kawo was impeached after a vote of no confidence was passed on his one week tenure, with 21 members supporting and only 3 voting against.

The clerk of the House has already sworn in a new speaker, Hon Adamu Usman.

It would be recalled that Gammunu, the former speaker before the new former speaker, had on Monday dragged his successor to court seeking to restrain him from performing the functions of speaker pending the determination of the case.

It remains to be seen if he would amend his case to reflect the most recent change at the helm of the assembly.
