Niger Delta Avengers lists Soyinka, Kalu in its dialogue team with FG

A faction of the Niger Delta Avengers on Saturday listed Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka and former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu in its team of negotiators with the Federal Government.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Ballantyne Agiri and released on Saturday, the faction representing the eastern and central parts of the region also listed other members of the seven-man team.

They include Prof. Steve Odi-Owei, Etubom, Dr. Anthony Ani, Nalaguo Chris Alagoa, Chief Alice Mobolaji Osomo, and Inienimi Ballantyne Agiri, who has been acting as spokesman for the group.

Agiri also said some international personalities have been contacted to serve as observers during the dialogue.

He said the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Weldy, a former Ghanaian President, John Kufor and a few others, would also be consulted.

Soyinka was recently quoted as urging the Federal Government to open dialogue with the militant groups, which had been agitating for resource control for the Niger Delta region.

One of those listed, Alice Osomo welcomed the development, but said she has not been formally consulted.

Alagoa said he has been consulted and ready to dialogue as a part of the team for the interest of the country.

He said, “I was approached and they said that they have confidence in me and few other people to lead the dialogue. If they are authentic to give me the chance to dialogue, it is okay.”

  1. I know that the elites of Niger Delta are the problems of this region. Why they keep on blaming Buhari shows they are misguided.
