Ex-militants to FG: ‘Why you shouldn’t negotiate with Avengers’

Niger Delta militants

Former militants operating under the aegis of the National Coalition of Niger Delta Ex-Agitators (NCNDE-A), on Monday, called on the federal government not to dialogue with the Niger Delta Avengers, saying that such a move will increase crisis in the region.

The group made this known in a communique released after its meeting in Ughelli, Delta State.

Speaking after the meeting, the group’s president, Israel Akpodoro, said the Niger Delta Avengers were politically motivated, hence the government should not negotiate with them.

He further said the recent increase in militancy was a ploy by some political leaders in the Niger Delta to cause more troubles for the federal government.

Akpodoro noted that if dialogue was to take place, it would result in restive youths across the country taking up arms against the government.

The ex-militant said the energy that would otherwise go into negotiating with the Avengers could be better used in addressing the injustice caused by the phase 3 of the amnesty programme.

He said that former militants of other ethnic groups, such as Urhobo, Isoko, Itsekiri and Ndokwa were unjustly removed from the amnesty programme.
