OPENNASS

The Nigerian Senate, during the close door session of Wednesday, April 20, suspended the plan to amend Section 3 of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act.

On April 14, the Senate had initiated a bill to amend a section of the Code of Conduct Tribunal and Bureau Act in a move alleged to be a last resort in the bid to save Senate President, Bukola Saraki who is on trial for false assets declaration.

The bill, in an accelerated manner uncharacteristic of the Senate, passed through first and second reading on the floor of the House within 48 hours.

The Bill, which was initiated by Peter Nwaoboshi, has now been referred to the committees on Judiciary and Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions.

The Senate also decided to suspend the amendment of Administration of Criminal Justice Acts (ACJA).

Also, the reports of the Ethics Committee on Kabiru Marafa was stepped down by the Senate.

Marafa, who is a vocal opposition to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki was recently alleged to have made comments that portrayed the Senate in a bad light.
