Minister of Interior blames social media for Fulani herdsmen attacks

The Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau has tagged social media as the reason why there have been more clashes between the deadly Fulani herdsmen and farmers, across the country.

Dambazau said this on Thursday, April 14 during an inaugural meeting on the Fulani Herdsmen conflict in Abuja.

The minister’s blame of social media for the escalated clash leaves much to be questioned.

How is social media contributing to more attacks on farmers by the Fulani herdsmen?

How did social media equip these men with deadly weapons and assault rifles?

He said “The rise of the social media has given scope to the non-traditional media outlets which has seen interest groups frame stories surrounding the conflict in ways that tend to undermine the cooperate existence of Nigeria.”

In essence, the honorable minister sees the reportage of the wanton destruction and carnage that seem to trail the Fulani herdsmen across the country by the press as the problem and probably not the herdsmen who have been accused of killing more Nigerians than the deadly terrorist group in recent times.

Dambazau, the minister who was recently in the news for using a DSS detail as shoe shiner, further said that the issue of the clashes between Fulani Herdsmen and farmers is a threat to national security and should be addressed urgently.

He has however, not condemned the killing of over 400 Nigerians in Agatu which Fulani Herdsmen have reportedly claimed responsibility for or the incessant attacks by the same elements on Chief Olu Falae, chairman of the Social Democratic Party or the killing of dozens of people in Taraba state by the herdsmen.
