Military says it will not use force to rescue abducted Chibok girls

The Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, said on Monday that the military would not use force in the rescue of the abducted Chibok girls.

Badeh gave this assurance while speaking to members of the Citizen Initiative for Security Awareness (CISA), an NGO, who were on solidarity campaign to the Defence Headquarters in Abuja. Read more….

NUT wants life insurance for teachers, students in the North-east 

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Adamawa chapter, has called for the introduction of life insurance policy for teachers and students in the North-East crisis zone.

The State Chairman of the union, Dauda Maina, made the call in Yola on Monday in an interview with NAN.

Maina said the call for the introduction of the cover insurance policy was necessary due to the loss of lives and collateral damages being suffered by teachers and students in those areas. Read more…..

Gombe to use Children’s Day to pray for abducted Chibok Girls

The Gombe Government said it would use the Children Day celebration to pray for the release of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls and others killed at the Federal Government College Buni-Yadi, Yobe.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Hajiya Fatima Abubakar, who made this known to newsmen in Gombe on Monday, said the children would gather at the stadium to offer the prayer.

Ababukar said the state government cancelled the fanfare associated with the Children’s Day celebration because of the security challenges in the North-East. Read more….

Nigeria gets $85m loan from Japan for polio eradication 

The Federal Government on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Japanese Government for $85 million dollars (N1.38 billion) loan to facilitate polio eradication in the country.

Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, Minister of Health, explained during the ceremony that the loan would be used to purchase vaccines.

U.S based group demands recall of corrupt, inept Leaders

The US-based Edo United for Home Land Empowerment, a human rights action movement, has called on members of Nigeria’s civil society to initiate the constitutional process of recalling corrupt and inept elected political office holders.

The organization, with headquarters in Boston in the state of Massachusetts, argued that part of the beauty of democracy was the people’s rights to decide who governs them, adding that the political class in Nigeria had failed the masses who elected them into office.

The group’s position was contained in a statement that detailed a study its members carried out in Nigeria. The study revealed widespread disenchantment by voters with the political class. The report cited extreme poverty among the masses, gross corruption, kidnapping, terrorism, lawlessness and insecurity in the country. Read more….
