Meet Willie XO, the hip hop artist helping poor communities

When you hear of Nigerian musicians and artists you rarely picture them as one who will care for the indigent and downtrodden in the community. The majority are more concerned with showing off their cash, fleet of cars or hi-tech gadgets.

But not Willie XO, the 6ft 6in hunk who arrived Nigeria recently has been visiting the poor in various hoods and is said to have given away millions.

Posting to his Instagram page, @theWillie.XO, the recording artist has asked for suggestions on the communities he should visit vowing to pay the tuition fees for five university students.

His foray into the Nigerian music industry was made possible by the talent managing outfit known as ‘The Goretti Company’, which is responsible for launching the careers of Phyno and Chidinma among others.

Willie X.O is understood to have received major financial backing from a Dutch company who heard his music and fell head over heels. He has been in Nigeria for some weeks working with hit makers like Kris beats, Del’B, Suspect etc.

According to Willie X.O., he made a pact with himself that whenever he makes it, he will always help the poor, give back to the community and he’s definitely fulfilling that very promise.

We spoke to his UK-based day to day manager, C-ROC who accompanied him to Nigeria.

He told YNaija that Willie X.O. is a down to earth gentle giant, with a unique voice.

“He’s been making music for some time now but made a massive breakthrough after landing major financial backing through an unexpected deal that came through last month. He’s currently in Lagos working with some top producers and hopefully by God’s grace we can churn out some nice tracks soon.”
