What does fake news have to do with the Chibok Girls? What does fake news have to do with Nigeria at all? It’s easy to get swept up in the drama and humour of it all. So easy that it might require a special effort to take a step back and examine the ways in which misinformation affects our societies everyday. Even with the current POTUS engaging in often shocking levels of misinformation himself, it’s a scourge that’s eating deep not only into the media but society as a whole.

CNN journalist Stephanie Busari gave a talk at the TED Ideas Search Lagos event in February that digs deep into what fake news really is and the very real ways in which it does harm.
