The Media Blog: Onyeka Nwelue is looking for trouble

Our favourite rebel without a cause (a title he’d likely cop to, himself) is at it again. This time in what is essentially a 990-word sub (yes, we counted,) he’s weighing in on the just concluded Lagos Fashion and Design Week. No, that’s not quite right. He’s coming for the “pretty boys” as he puts it. One wonders if said pretty boys have offended him in any way, because all he seems to want to say is that fashion is pointless and that people who work in fashion are any combination of fake, broke, vapid and unhappy you can muster. Well, except his own friends who work in fashion, of course. They are different. Of course.

See, we won’t talk too much. But. Ignoring the fact, of course, that shallow people can be found in any industry, if you’re going to punish us with a poorly-written (really, what more can be said about lines like “they are not always posting videos of their legs because many of them don’t even wear good shoes”?) article, it better not trade in cliche’s about the supposed emptiness of fashion. We’ve heard it all before. Please.

To be fair, his bit about stylists getting paid for doing for people what they used to hate their parents doing, did make us chuckle. A little. But that’s about as much merit as we can find in this latest attempt at getting attention. You can read for yourself here sha. He also talks about Bobrisky, but don’t expect anything of note their either.
