The Media Blog: Jade Osiberu created the magic that’s Ndani TV – and now she is ready for her close-up with Isoken

She did it before with Gidi Up, Ndani TV’s original series that secured a nomination in the AMVCAs in 2015. After nine months of saving up for this movie, scouting for the industry’s best and actual shooting (which might explain why the scripting and directing of Ndani series these days has gone to the toilet?), Jadesola Osiberu has finally arrived with her first feature film, ISOKEN.

Osiberu is the former head of Ndani TV – in charge of everything from The Juice to Skinny Girl in Transit. So that means you should pay attention.

Bolanle_2To be honest, we don’t know much about what to expect from Isoken in any way. The cast hasn’t spread news excitedly like they have on say The Wedding Party or The Arbitration. We can’t feel the excitement. And, shot in a matter of weeks, we can’t speak to the level of detail. To be honest, since shooting ended in July, we are kind of surprised the movie is already ready.

BUT. This is Osiberu. She created the magic that is Ndani, and IS without question the pioneer of the Online TV craze that has taken over Nigerian banking (we also hear she was once head honcho of creative here at Y! – though we weren’t unlucky to come after all that magic), so that’s certainly a calling card that makes this one to look out for.

dakore_2Taking the lead on the list is the title character, played Dakore Egbuson – fan fave. EbonyLife TV presenter, Bolanle Olukanni also got herself a role on this movie (which, considering her red carpet show and her Project Fame gig means she is officially winning). Others include Funke Akindele, Joseph Benjamin, Damilola Attoh, Tina Mba, Lydia Forson from Ghana, a rather goodlooking white dude Marc Rhys and veteran actor, Patrick Doyle. Doyle for a touch of unpredictability.

JO_BENThe story is about self discovery, racial stereotypes and cultural expectations – not the type of thing to make your heart race, but Osiberu is clearly one for the complex.

The posters reach for the stars, and touch them. There is something about the exclusive peek she has given that assures you of brilliance. We can’t wait to see the trailer.

Osiberu is an important voice.
