The Media Blog: Ifan, the stylist just launched a magazine – but nobody has seen it yet

If you work in at that intersection of digital and fashion media, or if you are blogger who really know whats going on, then you know Ifan (Ifeanyi Michael). He is, essentially, a stylist. But he does just about everything else across that circle.

No one has him figured out, but everybody likes Ifan – because he doesn’t mean anyone any harm, and if you love him, he’ll love you back.

Last year, actually two years ago: he pooled together some of Nollywood’s finest – from Dakore Egbuson to Lala Akindoju for a rather ambitious project, called #LotannaTheMovie. Working with Kelechi Amadi-Obi’s StyleMania magazine, manty watched as Ifan moved from kidding around to actually shooting this film.

Sadly, it’s two years after, and no one has yet seen the film. Only the hashtags.

And this year the 26-year-old has changed tack. He again pooled together some of the brightest stars – from Bolanle Olukanni to Uti Nwachukwu – to launch something else… this time, a magazine. Supposedly a print magazine.

The star-studded event held on 21 August at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos, and the name of the magazine is Fame Extra. It looks good – sleek shoots, remarkable editorials, a competent Toke Makinwa-cover page.

Only problem we don’t see any of these in the ACTUAL magazine. We see it everywhere but. We see it in the cardboard mockups, we see it in the cake mockups, we see it everywhere but in actual print.

Mock up 3We also went to the URL, in case it’s a digital-first launch – but FameExtraMagazine.com is ‘coming soon’.

We also find on the official Instagram handle that the shoot for this magazine’s interesting fashion spread was done as far back as 2014.

Fame Extra 2014Which shows a few things: Ifan is a man of huge ambitions, Ifan can do a lot of things, and when he does them, celebrities pay attention. Ifan can do more than a few things in the media and fashion spaces.

The questions though (from us, even as we are huge fans of his energy) with an uncompleted #LotannaTheMovie, and uncompleted #FameExtraMagazine are – is he doing too much? Or does he need more support? Or is he starting and not finishing? And isn’t it something to admire how the celeb bloc shows up regardless?

Oh, and why does the designer, Bayo Oke-Lawal look so displeased to be there?
