The decaying bodies of a couple that was about to wed were found on Sunday, in their Makolomi Street apartment of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The couple, identified as Udogi Eguke and Ese, were reportedly set to get married on November 22, and had started preparations, with invitation cards already sent out to guests.

According to the house owner, Alfred Onavwa, who shares the top floor of the one-storey building with one of the deceased, the lovers died in mysterious circumstances.

Onavwa recounted that a neighbour came to ask about the deceased, only for him to call his line and hear his mobile phone ringing upstairs.

He said, “On getting close to the door of the private stairway leading to their apartment, I noticed that it was locked from inside, with a stench oozing out.”

“On realizing this, I personally invited the police who came and broke the door only to discover their decomposing bodies. Their remains were later deposited in the mortuary and I was made to understand that investigation into the matter was ongoing. Even the Ughelli Divisional Police Officer was here to see things for himself.”
