Mamman Daura calls for an end to rotational Presidency | 5 Things That Should Matter Today

Mamman Daura, nephew to President Muhammadu Buhari, has called for a jettisoning of zoning and power rotation among the regions of the country, in favour of competence.

“Rotation has been done once, twice and three times-it is important that this nation should be united as one, the most qualified/competent (among aspirants) should be elected and not someone who comes from a particular zone,” he’s quoted to have said in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, monitored in Kaduna on Tuesday.

Daura, reputed to be one of the most influential voices in his administration, also said he does not impose his decision on the president, stressing that he visits him (Buhari) and offers him advice at his request.


The Federal Government has declared Thursday and Friday as public holidays, in honour of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

Interior Minister, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, who made the declaration in a statement; congratulated Muslim faithful and all Nigerians at home and abroad on the occasion and also asked Muslims to imbibe the spirit of love, peace, kindness and sacrifice, as exemplified by Prophet Muhammad.

He also advised Nigerians to stay safe by observing physical and social distancing, personal hygiene, as well as other regulations issued by relevant authorities during this period.


Lagos to build N10Bn Aqua, food centres in Badagry, Epe

Lagos Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has disclosed plans to establish a N10 billion Lagos Aquaculture Centre of Excellence (LACE) Project which is set to be located on 35 hectares of land in Igbonla, Epe under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement. 

In a speech on Tuesday, Sanwo-Olu while speaking to 2743 farmers under the 2020 agricultural value chains empowerment programme, explained to them that the plan is aimed at ensuring sustained food production and supply, resuscitation, expansion, stocking of agricultural production facilities in various value chains within the state.

The plans also include the construction of two food production centres in Epe and Badagry as well.


Hollywood actors, Yvonne Orji, Uzo Aduba and Jovan Adepo nominated for 2020 Emmys

Hollywood actors of Nigerian descent; Yvonne Orji from the show “Insecure,” Uzo Aduba from “Mrs America” and Jovan Adepo from “Watchmen” have all been nominated for the 2020 Emmys.

Actress, Uzo Aduba had been nominated at the Emmys three times in previous years for her work on Netflix’s “Orange Is The New Black,” of which she won twice. However, for Yvonne Orji and Jovan Adepo, this will be their first-ever Emmy nomination.

The nominations were announced on Tuesday night and the winners of this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards will be unveiled on 20th September in a live ceremony hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
