While #KenyansVsNigerians rages on Twitter, the Kenyan Twitter is actually busy with some more socially impacting causes for the betterment of their own country.

#WhatIsARoad is engaging Nairobians to collect a comprehensive data set of all potholes in the city. The trend seeks to collect a comprehensive amount of photographs of potholes across the country with the aim of getting the right ears to listen.

For the next six months, Nairobians will be taking photos of potholes, describing the location by geotaging or just writing it out, then tweet the photos while tagging @WhatIsARoad and using the hashtag #WhatIsARoad.

The photos are going to be aggregated on Ushahidi, a crowd sourcing platform which promises to support marginalised communities to raise their voice to get those who serve them to listen and respond.

Nigerian Twitter has put itself to task for social good in the past too. With the #EnoughIsEnough campaign that got former President, Goodluck Jonathan to take the Presidential seat while his boss Umaru Yar’adua was brain dead outside the country for months.

We also had the #OccupyNigeria which might be the biggest Twitter campaign ever launched in Africa. It got Nigerian leaders to listens when Nigerians stood firmly against the removal of fuel subsidy during Dr. Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

Nigerian Twitter has however been silent for a while. Relegating itself to #Bobrisky and #KenyansVsTwitter and such other trends.

We are obviously due for another campaign that will have some social impact. How about a #FixOurRoads for the next few months.
