Long queues disappear from Abuja fuel stations

by Akan Ido

Normalcy have returned to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, with the suspension of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) strike on August 23.

NUPENG had earlier threatened to commence a nationwide strike action on Friday in protest against the challenges faced by oil marketers as it relates to the fuel subsidy regime.

The union questions the delay in the payment of legitimate subsidy claims to oil marketers by the Federal Government.

Reports from fuel stations all over the territory reveal a smooth flow of vehicles in and out of filling stations.

A motorist, Alex Okoye described the strike as a sabotage against the Goodluck Jonathan administration saying he could not find a reason for the strike.

He said, “Thank God that they have resolved the issue and the product is now everywhere.”

Many respondents say the period of the strike was hectic and expressed happiness that it has finally been called off.
