[The Legislative Blog]: Vote of confidence or not? Hon Dogara will be on the spot today

Play time is over and members of the Nigerian Senate and House of Representatives will resume their sworn duties today, 20th September.
We anticipate a lot of significant discourses coming to the fore as so much has happened since they went off on break on July 21. The recession crept in while the senators and honourable were on recess and this is the biggest thing we expect that they will tackle head-on.
But there is a new development that we did not foresee. News making rounds say a number of House of Reps members who call themselves “Transparency Group” will be passing a vote of no confidence on Speaker Yakubu Dogara once plenary sessions resume tomorrow. Hon Yakubu Dogara is the alleged mastermind of the budget padding scandal that has lingered on the news for over two months. Meanwhile, an anonymous source, another key member of the House, has refuted this plan. According to this unidentified senator, Hon Dogara will receive a standing ovation at the House today and the applause will be followed by a vote of confidence.
So what will it be? A vote of confidence or no confidence? Will the House of Reps turn its back on Speaker Dogara?
Whichever way it goes, Hon Dogara will still need to answer so many questions. The allegations brought against him by the former Appropriation Chairman of the House, Abdulmumin Jibrin are strong. The man Dogara has tried to wave it off, the other House members who were named in the scandal have tried to make Jibrin look like a barking dog who is just hurt because things didn’t go his way. But this is an administration that loathes corruption, at least, according to Mr President’s insistence. So we doubt if Dogara will continue to sit safe in his cubicle at the House.
Although, we sense that Hon Dogara will not go down without a fight. Just yesterday, fresh allegations of a covert UK bank account were brought against Jibrin, the accuser. Maybe the man will get too busy fighting his own battles, he’ll stop seeking Dogara’s head eventually.
Anyhow it goes, we’re not tired of the drama just yet. So we will see how events turn out. But first stop, vote of (no) confidence for Dogara?
