[The Legislative Blog]: Senate clarifies status of #NotTooYoungToRun bill

OPENNASS

The Nigerian Senate has risen to the occasion and has followed the footsteps of the lower chamber in offering an explanation for the status of the Not too Young to Run bill that was allegedly removed from the Constitution Amendment Report.

Following reports making rounds that the bill had been dropped, over 50 youth organisations converged in Abuja first to offer the National Assembly a 2-day ultimatum to reverse the removal and second to declare Tuesday, 25 July as National Day of Action.

The youth threatened a mass takeover of NASS and more interesting, the commencement of a recall process of all the senators.

It’s no surprise that in less than 48 hours, both chambers of the National Assembly have issued statements reassuring that the bill remained “part of the Constitution Review process” with Reps Speaker, Hon Yakubu Dogara adding that the reason for the confusion must be due to the change in the title of the bill.

In the statement issued by the Senate hours ago, the bill will be considered among others at next Tuesday’s plenary.

We’ll watch from here.
