[The Legislative Blog]: The Nigerian Senate refuses to carry last on this tech stuff, hence Facebook Live

First it was e-voting days ago, we ignored it like “no be today, they’ll soon spoil it sef as per is it not naija

Then today, the Nigerian Senate live-streamed plenary session for the first time, in a test run. So we decided to put our bad belle and cynicism aside because this is one feat we are definitely proud of. It doesn’t even matter if it goes awry tomorrow, what is most impressive is the actual attempt to practice an open Senate, a transparent institution that Nigerians can question at each point.

To be fair, the upper chamber had been putting up videos of proceedings on YouTube for a while now but you people were not watching, or so we were told. Anyway, we decided to confirm so we searched YouTube and here’s what we found:

It’s been online news channel, Oak TV putting up the posts the whole time.

But wait! Who is the (wo)man behind all these tech-y tech-y ideas that these old men (except for a few who are active on new media) are serving recently? It would be really nice to see him/her placed on the spotlight and publicly appreciated…

But before we start stirring up in excitement because we finally saw the light in technology, let’s see if the Senate’s Facebook Live will still be, well, “live” in the next three months.

If nothing else though, what amuses us most about this new tech development is that those chair-slinging, fist-throwing sessions at the House too will be live. What better way to watch a show of shame than LIVE. We will be right here waiting and monitoring…*smirks*

If you didn’t catch it live, here’s what you missed (and the views are looking good for a first).
