Senator Isah Misau, representing Bauchi Central in the Upper Chamber really does have a truckload of dirt on the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.

Raising fresh allegations against the IGP at plenary today, Misau said, “The IG is openly having two relationships with police women which he gave special promotion. One of them is Amina and one of them is DSP Esther which the IG on 15th of last month got married to. Under police act and regulation you cannot marry a serving woman police unless that woman retires”.

Although it is unclear the source of his details, Senator Misau went on to say that the DSP in question is 4 months pregnant for Idris. According to him, the IGP’s actions have now demoralised serving police officers who are denied of the promotion they deserve because the IGP’s “own boys” are specially favoured.

Misau maintained that Idris’s actions were against the rules of the police force as not only did he marry the policewoman, he also promoted her to a rank she was not qualified for.

It’s not the first time Misau has accused the IGP and the Nigerian Police Force of related offences. In August, he called the IGP out for running a system that allowed police officers to pay as much as N2.5 million to get special promotion.

He said at the time, “It is only those that pay the money and those who are close to the top echelon of the police and politicians that are benefitting from the special promotion. Special promotion, which is supposed to be a reward for gallantry and outstanding performance, has turned to cash and carry.”

Recall that the Police Force had immediately gone on the defensive raising counter accusations against the Senator and calling him a “deserter” who “dubiously absconded” from the Force after being redeployed to Niger state in 2010.

It turned out the NPF wrongly informed the populace on the circumstances surrounding Misau’s retirement. The Police Service Commission confirmed he followed due process in his retirement and he was cleared of the claims.

With Misau’s new allegations, the onus is now on the Senate and the EFCC to immediately kickstart an investigation into the IGP’s alleged illegal acts.
