Speaker of Niger State House of Assembly, Barrister Usman Adamu has been impeached and a new Speaker has been immediately sworn in.

Adamu was impeached by 18 of 27 members, with Isa Kawu of Bida 1 State Constituency elected new Speaker

Earlier in the day, over 200 armed policemen and other security agents prevented everyone including lawmakers from gaining entrance into the complex.

However, some of the lawmakers forced their way into the assembly complex after damaging the key and the chain used in locking the gate.
