Lam Adesina, former Oyo governor, is dead

Multiple sources are reporting the death of the former governor of Oyo State, Lam Adesina.

Adesina was the governor of the state under the Alliance for Democracy between 1999 and 2003. He was succeeded as governor by Rashidi Ladoja of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Adesina was born on 20 January 1939. He attended Loyola college in Ibadan, then studied at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka from 1961-1963. Later he attended the University of Ibadan in 1971. He worked in private educational institutions before delving into politics.

Adesina was a sponsor of the present Oyo governor, Abiola Ajimobi in his successful bid to be elected to the senate to represent Oyo South in 2003. Later the two men fell apart, and Ajimobi moved to the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).

Circumstances surrounding is death is not readily available but reports say Adesina will be buried immediately at his Felele, Ibadan, residence according to Islamic rites.
