The love for shoes is something I believe women all over the globe have in common, it’s simply impossible to have too many shoes. They are an essential, the icing on the cake; they make or break an outfit.

High heels are great to wear, they immediately add a wow effect to your outfit and make you inches taller. Shoe Guru, Manolo Blahnik said “you put high heels on and you change” -this is undisputedly true.

French master of shoe art, Christian Louboutin also admitted that “high heels are pleasure with pain,” however, you can sometimes have pleasure without pain. They are the alternate movement called SNEAKERS.

The feet look fabulous in heels, though often times they are greatly distressed and need a break. Wearing sneakers is a great way to give your feet a time out and let’s face it they are way more comfortable.

Sneakers have been portrayed as the ‘guy foot wear’ for decades but now not anymore, its uber cool for ladies to wear sneakers too. Companies like Nike, Converse, Adidas, even have female version of their sneakers to fit women, since ladies tend to have smaller feet then men.

There are two major types of sneakers; they are The High-tops and Low-tops.

Sneakers come in variants of colours to suit every colour that would attract ladies. There is also the new trend of sneakers pioneered by Isabella Marant; they are the wedge sneakers, commonly worn by American singers Beyonce and Alicia keys. The children of REV RUN DMC, rap pioneer of the eighties, Vanessa & Angela Simmons own a female sneaker company called Pastry. It’s the rebirth of cool sneakers made for the ladies.

Sneakers give a tomboyish look so it’s important to include features that accentuate your femininity except the aim is a full tomboy ensemble which would include baggy boyfriend jeans, a tee twice your size or jersey and sneakers.

Chic ways to wear sneakers include:

  1. A shade of pink lip stain or gloss
  2. Multiple bracelets
  3. A great manicure
  4. A touch of sequins or studs
  5. A nice hand bag

Another advantage besides its comfort is that it can be worn with ALMOST everything. Sneakers look good with jeans, dresses, skirts; most especially, cropped tops and most especially shorts.

Just like every other type of shoes out there, it’s important to take good care of your sneakers. Here are some dos and don’ts of wearing sneakers:

  1. DO wear socks with, your sneakers. Either low cut socks invisible to the human eye, ankle socks or even full on long knee socks. They help to avoid bad odour.
  2. DO Own a can of odourless shoe spray
  3. DO Air your sneakers from time to time
  4. DO NOT wear sneakers with a cocktail dress
  5. DO NOT wear sneakers on the red carpet event, channel your inner Kristen Stewart elsewhere
  6. DO NOT machine wash your shoes, use a damp cloth to clean off dirt
  7. DO NOT wear sneakers for formal events

Sneakers shouldn’t only be worn when it’s time for the gym they can be incorporated into daily outfits as well, it’s an easy style trend and has no age limit and not to forget…. Oh so comfortable.
