The Police said it has arrested a fleeing Boko Haram deputy commander, Seth Yakubu, at Gwako Village in Gwagwalada area of the Federal Capital Territory.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Musa Kimo said the 20-year-old from Nassarawa State was arrested at about 11.30am on Sunday after a tip-off.

Kimo, on Monday, said the suspect confessed that he escaped from the Sambisa forest their hideout was bombed by the Nigeria Air Force about a week ago.

He said, “Yakubu further stated that he left Maiduguri on Friday, July 21, 2017 and arrived Gwako village on Saturday at about 10pm, to conceal his identity and seek refuge.

“The suspect said he was lured to join the Boko Haram terrorists group by a young man who approached him with a promise of an automatic employment into the Nigerian Army, only to end up with the sect.

“He said he was given a form to fill and, thinking the job was real, he completed the form, but was taken to an unknown depot where he and some others received training.”

He added that Yakubu admitted being second in-command of his unit.

The commissioner of Police urged Abuja residents to be at alert and report any strange and suspicious persons or activity to the police.

“The command wishes to also advise community leaders to guard against habouring strangers, especially those whose mission to the community is not clear,” he added.
