Just like the NDDC, Nigerians want a probe of the NNPC

NNPC corruption

Corruption in Nigeria is an old song that Nigerians know its harmony too well. With every passing administration, one thing is always promised – ‘we are going to fight corruption to its roots,’ but the harmony seems to get perfected with every of these administrations.

Nigerians, however, are not ignorant of the level of corruption that exists across various sectors of the economy and across various government establishments and agencies. The many who care enough about this problem air their thoughts occasionally, but lately, more attention is being drawn to this old, well-perfected song.

But if corruption has thrived under this administration (and others, arguably), why are people only now, so concerned about corruption; pointing fingers at one agency or the other, calling out one entity or the other and mentioning names and enablers of corruption?

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is currently being probed over alleged mismanagement of funds as well as other irregularities, and the wild drama that have emanated from the entire exercise may have ignited the interest of Nigerians to demand a probe of other commissions, agencies and parastatals.

On Twitter, a huge number of people are pointing fingers at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Federal Airports Authority Nigeria (FAAN), and a host of government agencies, calling for similar actions with the NDDC applied to them.

In 2019, Mele Kolo Kyari, the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, in a statement, acknowledged that there exists in the NNPC, corruption as he also shared that he would be working transparently with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in fighting the scourge – Not so much has been seen as it relates to fighting corruption in the sector and Nigerians still steadfastly hold the notion that corruption lives there.

Nigerians in this trend, however, seem only to be interested in the probing of these government regulated establishments as many have drawn attention back to corruption being a beat that every Nigerians dance so well, debating that even after probing, NOTHING might happen to the SUSPECTS.
