PDP Chairmanship: Gbenga Daniel steps down for Dokpesi

Former Governor of Ogun state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has halted his ambition to be the next chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) according to The Vanguard.

Daniel says he will be pulling all his resources together in support of High Chief Raymond Dokpesi for the August 17 convention.

The two-term governor made the announcement when he played host to Dokpesi and his team at the Conference Hotel and Suites, Sagamu, adding that he has utmost confidence in the ability of the media mogul to rebuild the party and make it the darling of Nigerians.

Daniel said he has been under intense pressure to contest but he said he would abandon his ambition to support Dokpesi, “I have known High Chief for more than four decades and it beholds on me that I should support him whenever he is seeking any position,” he said amidst applause.

Chief Dokpesi in his acceptance speech appreciated Otunba Daniel’s kind gesture as he promised to work assiduously to bring unity to PDP in the South West and in the country as a whole.

The PDP delegates from Ogun state prayed for him and pledged their support during the convention.

Ogun is the 13th state visited by Dokpesi and his team made up of former Chief Whip of the senate, Victor Kassim Oyofo; Edo state PDP organizing secretary, Hon. Henry Duke Tenebe; former chairman of PDP Kaduna, Chief Abubakar Gaiya Haruna and his Nasarawa counterpart, Chief Yunaha Iliya. Others were Mrs. Kafilat Ogbara, Prince Lekan Tejuoso, Benson Olaoluwa, Sola Kuti among others.
