by Godwin Akanfe

The Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, has announced that suspension of the residency training programme in all federal hospitals with effect from Thursday, August 28 has been rescinded. The Federal Government has also reinstated all resident doctors that were disengaged as a result of the suspension with effect from the same date.

This effectively changes the federal government’s position on the the sack of over 16,000 resident doctors.

Prof. Chukwu, said that all Chief Medical Directors and Medical Directors of the training centres have been directed to issue letters of reinstatement to the resident doctors to enable them resume work immediately.

“The Federal Government urges the resident doctors to see the magnanimity of government in reinstating them as a goodwill gesture to engender greater commitment and dedication to their duties,” Chukwu explained.

He also said the government has enjoined the doctors to view the reinstatement as a sign of goodwill by the administration.
