Jim Iyke and Mercy Johnson are lovers in romantic comedy “Seven and a Half Date”

Mercy Johnson

First, let’s look at the elements that Seven and a Half Date has going. Star-studded cast (check). Romantic comedy (check). Designed for cinemas (check). For a moment, I thought Nollywood had taken a break on romantic comedies but I guess it’s just a mirage. Rom-coms all the way, baby!

Scripted by Joy Isi-Bewaji and directed by Biodun Stephens, Seven and Half Date already sounds mellow and romance-y like 50 First Dates, and brings Jim Iyke and Mercy Johnson together as lovers. Or maybe not for the entire duration of the film, since there are more than one date to experience.

Pictures from the film’s set location have been circulating the media since January. And the story follows Bisola, who is a young, hard working woman with her head in her career, but finds herself in a seemingly unending quest for love. Her father comes to her rescue in some kind of paternal intervention. He sets Bisola up for 10 different dates, to which he hopes one of them yields a positive result.

Also starring Toyin Abraham, Frank Donga, Bayray Mcnwizu, Ali Nuhu, Sola Sobowale, Fathia Williams, Akin Lewis, and Ken Erics, Seven and a Half Date will be out in cinemas this August.
